abstract = "The monthly distribution of rainfall in watersheds is of
outstanding importance for proper planning of water resources in a
given area. The objective of this study was to characterize and
study the monthly rainfall of sub-basins belonging to the
watersheds of the Uruguay River and the Atlantic Southeast
Stretch, in its Brazilian parts, using temporal averages of
specialized rainfall stations in the study region with a
historical series of 30 years (1977-2006). Means were used in
precipitation of historical data obtained from the Atlas Rainfall
in Brazil. The data were analyzed to characterize the average
rainfall during the months of the year and the wettest and less
humid periods, since the sub-basins was not detected nothing
exactly dry period. It was found that the sub-basin 77, the
westernmost in the study area, in the west of Rio Grande do Sul,
had the lowest average annual rainfall, with 1455,4mm.ano-1, and
that in the same sub-basin 77, the lowest average monthly rainfall
was observed, with a value of 69,2mm.ano-1 in August. Have the
sub-basin 80, the northernmost of the Atlantic Watershed -
Southeast Stretch, had the highest average annual rainfall, with
2510,3mm.ano-1, and the highest monthly average rainfall was
323,6mm.ano-1 in January, in the same sub-basin 80, from the data
studied, it appears that the range of average annual rainfall
between sub-basins belonging to the basin of the Rio Uruguay, was
508,8mm.ano-1 and between sub-bacias Atlantic - Southeast Stretch
in its Brazilian part, was 1028,1mm.ano-1.",
